We have a governing body which is responsible for ensuring we meet our statutory requirements and provide a high-quality service for all of our families.

Lynne James – Chair of Governors

Margaret Cecil-Parent – Vice Chair of Governors

I became a school governor when my grandson attended Filton Avenue Nursery as I felt it was important to get involved, and may be an influence in the future of the school.

David Jepson

My professional background is working in economic development consultancy,  but I have also long been involved in community issues. Before moving to Bristol, I was a City Councillor in Birmingham for several years. I think that Children’s Centers have gone an excellent job in recent years and we need to make sure they continue to do so.

Phyllida Wyatt – Community Governor

Kate Irvine – Staff Governor

Sue Smith – Clerk

I have been the Clerk to the Governors at FANSCC since January 2010 and have a little experience with children, having 4 children and 2 grandchildren.

Part of the clerk’s role is to liaise with the Bristol Governors Service, the Head, the Chair and the Governors. Besides providing the usual administrative support before, during and after full governing body meetings, I gather information about legal and procedural matters for the governing body when requested.

I really enjoy playing a small part at FANSCC and working alongside the Head and Governors who work so hard for the school and community.

Mo Clifford – Staff Governor

I have previously worked for a telecoms company and building society.  So, when joining our team in 2003, it was a very different working environment for me.  I love being able to see the children each day and having the opportunity of working with professionals from different backgrounds.

I have a camper van and like to relax on summer weekends with my husband and/or family – usually by the sea.  I have two grown up children and four grandchildren.  I like travel, theatre, reading, enjoying sport and spending time with family and friends.

Sarah Woodfield – Headteacher

Having taught in the Early Years for nearly 20 years it is a privilege to be Headteacher at FANS. I am passionate about supporting early learning and love my job! I have been at the centre for over 11 years, having previously worked in a large primary school in both Reception class and nursery. I love walking my black Labrador in woods, swimming in the sea and shopping! I live locally with my husband and have two daughters and two lovely grandsons with whom we regularly share our love of food and cooking! I am very proud to work in such an inspiring place as Filton Avenue with outstanding facilities for young children and look forward to continually reflecting on all aspects of the centre to ensure we all deliver the best practice for our children.

Our setting is funded by Bristol City Council. Part of the governors’ role is to ensure that we make best use of the annual budget.

The governors are all volunteers who are committed to our work and have knowledge and expertise to share with us.

They are our ‘critical friends’ because they spend time with us and know us well.

They meet as a whole group six times a year. They also have sub-committees which oversee all aspects of our provision.
