Children in the Acorn Room at Filton Avenue Nursery School have been busy celebrating Healthy Eating Week, enjoying a wide range of hands-on experiences with fresh fruit and simple food preparation. They explored different textures, colours and flavours as they tasted a variety of fruits, building confidence to try new foods and talk about what they liked and did not like.

A highlight of the week was making guacamole together. Children helped to prepare the ingredients, mashing avocado and mixing it with other simple additions. This practical activity supported their physical development through using their hands and tools, as well as encouraging communication and language as they talked about what they were doing and followed simple instructions.

Sharing the guacamole they had made gave children a sense of pride and achievement. For some, it was their first time tasting it, and many were excited to discover a new food they enjoyed. These experiences help children to develop independence, curiosity and an early understanding of healthy choices in a fun and meaningful way.
