Dear Families,
Following our previous communication, we are writing to update you on our arrangements during the current red weather warning for extreme heat.
In line with guidance from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Department for Education regarding keeping children under 4 safe in extreme temperatures, we have taken the decision to close the nursery for the full day on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
We understand this may cause inconvenience, however the safety and wellbeing of the children and staff must come first in these exceptional conditions. We have taken the decision not to offer a half-day option, as the times for arrival and collection between 11:00am and 3:00pm are expected to be the hottest and most challenging part of the day for young children.
We would like to reassure you that:
- We intend to open as usual on Friday, subject to conditions improving
- We will be monitoring emails and phone lines during the closure should you need to contact us
Any wraparound care, including breakfast club and after-school club, will be credited for returning children and refunded for those starting school in September.
During this hot weather, we would also encourage families to take extra care to keep children safe, particularly around water such as paddling pools. Children should always be closely supervised, even in shallow water, and steps taken to keep them cool and well hydrated.
If you have any questions or need to get in touch, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Kind regards,
Kate Tector
Headteacher
