The rain certainly did not stop the fun in the Acorns room at Filton Avenue Nursery School. Children put on their waterproofs and headed outside, ready to explore the wet weather together. There was lots of laughter as they splashed in puddles and playfully splashed rainwater with their friends, enjoying the sights and sounds of the rain all around them.
Outdoor play in different weather conditions helps children build confidence and resilience and encourages them to take safe risks. As they moved, jumped and splashed, children developed their physical skills and coordination. They also used their communication and language skills to share their excitement, describe what they saw and heard, and engage in playful interactions with others.
Experiencing the rain first-hand helps children to make sense of the world around them. From noticing how water collects in puddles to feeling rain on their faces, these simple moments spark curiosity and support early scientific thinking.
