This week Little Acorns and Acorns went on a walk in the local area, exploring our community and developing our understanding of the world around us. We talked about road safety, learning important skills about crossing roads and staying safe whilst out and about.
The children noticed many things we saw along the way, making personal connections such as “that’s nanny’s house” and spotting a cat in a garden. We watched builders laying a path, observing real work happening in our neighbourhood and understanding how our environment is built and maintained. We also saw two trains, which excited the children and sparked conversations about transport and how people travel.
These local walks help children develop their observational skills, build connections between home and nursery, and understand their place in the wider community whilst practising important safety skills.
