This afternoon, we have dug up potatoes and turnips from our planters, experiencing the excitement of harvesting vegetables we have grown ourselves. The children then cleaned, chopped, and cooked them before enjoying their freshly prepared food together.
This wonderful farm-to-table experience helps children understand where healthy food comes from while developing their appreciation for fresh vegetables. Through the sensory experiences of touching the soil, feeling the textures of different vegetables, smelling them as they cook, and tasting the final dish, children engage all their senses in learning about healthy eating. These hands-on cooking activities support physical development through using tools safely, understanding of the world through learning about growth and food preparation, and personal development as children gain confidence in preparing and trying nutritious foods.
